We just returned from two incredible trips! In the morning we had some nice close looks at 8 Pacific white-sided dolphins and then sailed out to deep water to investigate a large patch of kelp, underneath which we found one of the largest school of mola mola we’ve ever seen with at least 12 adult fish lurking beneath the surface. We believe we also saw a fin whale, but since we never saw it resurface, we didn’t count that sighting. In the afternoon, however, the baleen whales were much less shy! In just 100 feet of water, we found TWO humpback whales and saw at least 7 or 8 breaches! Scientists aren’t 100% sure why whales breach – whether it’s to attract a mate or just to scratch an itch – but one thing we know for sure? We love it when they do! Check out these photos!
