The ocean is full of surprises! While in the afternoon we saw two more southbound gray whales (as expected now well into gray whale season), we’ve been seeing quite a lot of humpbacks as well, including a very lively one on our morning trip! The whale showed off its flukes several times and then just as we assumed it had gone down on a longer dive – SPLASH! We got a picture of the aftermath, but not of the actual whale in the air. If anyone aboard got that fantastic shot, we hope you might considering sharing it. Breaches, especially so close to the boat (just over 100 yards) are VERY rare indeed!
