No matter how many trips I work, there’s always the possibility of experiencing “firsts”, and today I got to witness my first DOUBLE breach! One whale breaching is special enough, but seeing two hurl themselves out of the water in tandem during our morning trip was quite the sight! The first trip yielded 4 northbound gray whales, 30 common dolphins, and a single Pacific white-sided dolphin.

In the afternoon we found a pair of gray whales that seemed shy at first, but got comfortable after a bit and displayed some courtship behavior fairly close to us. We also found a pod of 20 lively Pacific white-sided dolphins just outside the jetties.

The conditions today were so serene that our photos look more like oil paintings. What a treat!

If you’re joining us tomorrow for St. Patrick’s Day, be sure to wear green for good luck!
