We managed to see five different cetacean species today!

In the morning we saw a single inshore bottlenose dolphin as we left the jetties, a very shy humpback whale from a distance, and a pod of 250 long-beaked common dolphins mixed in with 20 or so Pacific white-sided dolphins, all feeding alongside birds and California sea lions.

We had to work a bit harder in the afternoon, traveling far north near Torrey Pines, but it paid off with a sighting of about 200 short-beaked common dolphins.

I’m curious to see what 2-for-1 Tuesday has in store for us tomorrow!
