Mondays aren’t so bad when you’re in the middle of a feeding frenzy! One of the Humpback Whales that has frequented the San Diego coast for over one month was relocated off La Jolla this morning. It foraged on large schools of anchovies nearby Common Dolphins and California Sea Lions. While observing the mammals, we watched a variety of birds dive-bomb for fish. Our passengers were fortunate enough to see lunge-feeding behavior, tail-lobbing, tail-slapping AND a single breach! Most of us missed the breach but a few lucky whale watchers were looking at the right place at the right time. While keeping an eye on the humpback, we spotted a mystery whale on the way to the same bait-ball. After seeing it once, the whale was never seen again. On our way home, we cruised through a few hundred additional Common Dolphins, bringing our final count to ~400-500 dolphins for the day! What could we possible find next?! Keep tuning in for our next sightings update!
