It was a gorgeous day full of Fin whale and Common dolphin action! Very soon after leaving the jetties, we sighted a pod of ~30 Long-beaked Common dolphins. They were slowly traveling to the north, but many of them zoomed over to check us out. We watched as they surfed beside us and did some people watching. A couple cow/calf pairs were sighted right next to the boat. They joined a feeding frenzy and chased small schooling fish underneath diving birds. We continued out to the west and went south along the drop-off. Along the way, we sighted a pod of ~100 Short-beaked Common dolphins. They were full of energy, leaping out of the water and porpoising. They surfed in our wake and bow-rode. Not too far from those dolphins we sighted two Fin whales! They seemed to be circling in one area, which indicated they were likely feeding. We observed their mighty spouts, back, and dorsal fin with every surfacing. On our way home, a handful of Inshore bottlenose dolphins were sighted, which was a great finish to our trip.
Trash/Recyclables: ZERO!
Come join us soon! We have been finding Fin whales consistently!
