The non-stop cetacean action we enjoyed on our trips yesterday carried through this morning! We found “Twitch” the Humpback Whale, on his/her typical shenanigans of following pods of Common Dolphins and mugging our boat! Up to ~200 Common Dolphins were spotted around the same general area as the humpback and they were observed either traveling or forming feeding frenzies. The whale took us by surprised and made an especially close pass as it dipped under our bow from one side of the boat to the other! The dolphins were always close-by as we enjoyed one of our favorite whales of the season! Somehow, by the time we had made our way back offshore for an afternoon trip, the wildlife had completely dispersed and moved elsewhere. That just goes to show you how quickly things can change on the water! Marine mammals are drawn in just as quickly as they are drawn away so we’re sure to get some more luck tomorrow. Until then, whale watchers!
