We had non-stop action today aboard the Privateer! We observed many toothed whales on both of our trips! We started the morning trip with a pod of ~10-15 Inshore Bottlenose dolphins at the mouth of the jetties. We continued out and found numerous pods of Long-beaked Common dolphins! They were everywhere as far as our eye can see. We got to 8.5-miles from shore and found an exuberant pod of ~150 Short-beaked Common dolphins! They playfully leaped, breached and tail-slapped the ocean surface. We made our way back in and found a pod of ~40-50 Offshore Bottlenose dolphins! They were interested in us as they cruised right beside us. We noticed a couple cow/calf pairs too!
During the afternoon trip, we pointed our noses to the SW and found small pod of ~25 Long-beaked Common dolphins! They zoomed up to the bow to bow-ride and also surfed in our wake! We observed many little babies, hanging out with their moms as they approached the boat. We ventured out to the drop-off and beyond. Almost 10-miles from shore, we found a big pod of ~150 Long-beaked Common dolphins! They were so fun to watch as they breached and porpoised beside us! Out of nowhere, we observed them all take off and stampede with great energy! They fanned out in different directions, and after losing momentum came back together again.
We love the different dolphin species we can see throughout the year! Come join us for an epic day on the water!
