We hung out with a Gray whale all day today! It was spotted less than a mile from shore, in 50-ft of water! It hung out near the kelp forest exhibiting some fun social behaviors. We got to see the beautiful heart-shaped spout Gray whales are known for. We enjoyed watching it blow bubbles before coming up for breaths, and also rolling around in kelp! A few times it even mugged us by popping up next to the boat! During our morning and afternoon tours, we encountered huge pods of Long-beaked Common dolphins. Lots of porpoising, breaching and surfing behaviors were observed.
This was our second Gray whale sighting of the season! Come on out soon as this season has only begun for us here in San Diego!
