The Common dolphins were amazing today!
On our morning trip, we cruised out to the drop-off and spotted some birds to the NW of us. We went to investigate and found a big pod of ~200 Long-beaked Common dolphins! They were sighted in all directions around us, very slowly traveling to the south. They were having fun in the swells, surfing and leaping out of them! They surfed in our wake at least 5-7 strong! We could hear very high-pitched whistles while on the lower deck! There were a few cow/calf pairs that practiced their surfing at the bow!
On our afternoon trip, we set out to the west and once on the drop-off, we found more Long-beaked Common dolphins! The pod recruited more dolphriends as the pod doubled in size to about 400 individuals! They were spread out over a 3/4mile radius. We had very little wind and had glassy waters so we could see them swimming below the surface! We picked up the pace and some of the energetic dolphins began to beeline it to our boat to bow ride! We toured the Gray whale zone and had beautiful looks at the coastline!
We are excited for another day on the water tomorrow! Come join us for a fun time on the Pacific!
