Whale watching is SO GOOD right now! We got time to spend with a very confident trio of gray whales and a little juvenile that seemed to join in on their migration. This trio of whales was cruising slowly just outside the kelp line outside of OB pier, down Point Loma.
We’ve been seeing gray whales for a month now but most have been singles that prefer to cruise a distance away from boats. These whales had no problem cruising parallel with our vessel as they headed slowly south. Cheers of joy were abundant! These whales were very generous about lifting their flukes on dives. This is a personal preference and seeing a whale tail is never a guarantee so seeing the flukes pop up 1….2…3.. IN A ROW! Just incredible the way the energy erupts on deck. On our way back to the docks we got to play with a small pod of long beaked common dolphins, our favorite little dopamine torpedos. They had some babies with them enthusiastically surfing in our wake.
