San Diego, CA – April, 10. 2025 — As Earth Month kicks off, San Diego Whale Watch is diving into action with a major commitment to local conservation: the company has officially adopted Fiesta Island in Mission Bay Park through the Adopt-a-Beach program with I Love a Clean San Diego. The move marks a renewed pledge to protect San Diego’s coastline — and a call to the community to join in.
Starting this month, San Diego Whale Watch will host a series of beach cleanups open to volunteers of all ages, aimed at keeping Fiesta Island beautiful and trash-free.
“Earth Month is the perfect time to take action, and we’re thrilled to lead the charge by adopting one of San Diego’s most loved local beaches,” said Kelly O’Hara, CFO of San Diego Whale Watch. “We’re not just cleaning up—we’re creating opportunities for people to connect with the coast and protect what makes San Diego so special.”
A Cleaner Coast Starts Here
Fiesta Island is a popular destination for families, dog lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts — and it sees its fair share of litter and marine debris. By organizing regular cleanups, San Diego Whale Watch hopes to remove hundreds of pounds of waste from the shoreline, raise awareness about marine pollution, and give back to the community that supports its mission.
Each cleanup will feature education stations, sustainability tips, and hands-on ways for locals to get involved in marine conservation.
Community at the Core
Partnering with I Love a Clean San Diego, San Diego Whale Watch is proud to be part of a larger effort to preserve coastal spaces through community action. Volunteers will receive supplies, support, and the chance to make a visible difference on-site.
“This is just one piece of our bigger mission,” said O’Hara. “We’re excited to welcome the community into this work — whether they’re joining a cleanup or learning about marine life on one of our tours.”

San Diego Whale Watch invites everyone to celebrate Earth Month by signing up for an upcoming cleanup and helping protect the beaches we all enjoy.
