Feeding Frenzy Friday! We are hungry to see what’s in store for the weekend!

We started the day out by pointing our nose to the SW. We spotted big aggregations of birds diving in the water. Once we got within a mile from them, we were excited to see dolphins jumping out of the water! The ~150 Long-beaked Common dolphins zoomed around chasing bait! The bait ball were everywhere along the drop-off. The enjoyed watching the Commons surfing our wake and bow riding the boat! We cruised north and spotted a couple more dolphins along the way!

On our afternoon trip, we had an incredible encounter with a pod of ~350 Long-beaked Common dolphins! We caught up with them on our way toward the coastline. As we approached them, they began launching out of the water porpoising straight to our boat! They were exhilarating to see them so full of energy! They cruised beneath the passengers feet at the bow of the Privateer. They also hitched a ride in our wake allowing for us to be eye-to-eye with them! It was awesome to see the California Brown Pelicans diving with great speed into the water picking up small bait fish! They were mostly traveling north in a long train-like fashion. We spotted plenty of cow/calf pairs spread all throughout the pod. We hope you’ll join us for a trip soon!
