TWENTY Gray whales AND a GREEN FLASH!

Every time we head out to sea lately, it’s been a full‑blown wildlife BONANZA.

Gray whales are cruising straight south, just passing through — we rarely see the same whale twice. EVERY trip has had at least six whales. This morning we had two trios, and it really seems like the whales gain confidence when they travel in groups. When we find these pods, they’re often socializing with each other and far too distracted to care much about a boat.

This afternoon we spotted one whale… which quickly turned into four… and then another right off the bow — five whales within the first 30 minutes of the trip. After we got our fill, we kept searching and found another on our way back in.

This evening we started with a tip from some fellow whale watchers — a great trio hanging out just off the drop‑off.

We tried to head straight for them, but we spotted five spouts on the way! It really feels like we’re seeing SO MANY more grays this year, and they’re looking fat and healthy. There’s nothing better than watching a population that was on the brink of decline show such strong signs of a turnaround.
