What a sunset we had today!
It was an absolutely gorgeous evening out on the Pacific! Much less swell than yesterday and calmer winds made for the best time.
Fairly early into the trip Captain Vanessa and the crew aboard the Privateer spotted the most relaxed pod of ~150 Long beaked common dolphins hanging out about 2 miles from the coastline. This Pod was gently bow riding and slowly making its way towards the north.
But we wanted to make our way out to the deeper water to the drop off where the baleen whales had been trending as of lately.
9 miles from shore an enormous spout was seen from a mighty fin whale!
Definitely was an unexpected but welcome surprise on our sunset trip.
The fin was pretty curious and popped up close by doing a little people watching and giving us a classic “whale mugging”.
We rounded out this trip with a spectacular and vibrant sunset and watching the majestic full moon rising out of the trees while docking the boat.
Does it really get any better? Evenings like this make sense why we have been nominated for best whale watching and best sunset spot by San Diego Magazine.
Your votes and nominations mean the world to us.
