We caught up with hundreds of Common dolphins on our single afternoon trip!
We left Mission bay and cruised out to the NW. Along the way, we sighted some major feeding frenzies! There was an awesome bait ball right at the surface only a few miles from shore! We spotted Long-beaked Common dolphins zooming around upside down belly up chasing fish! There were also California sea lions hanging out taking advantage of the small schooling fish! We pushed out further and spotted more feeding frenzies but no dolphins. We got up to La Jolla and spotted some major splashes near birds so we pointed our nose toward the activity! Lo and behold, there was an amazing pod of ~300 Short-beaked Common dolphins that were jumping out of the water like popcorn! They were so fun and energetic! Everyone had smiles on their faces! We cruised in toward La Jolla cove and turned south in search for more wildlife. Out to the west there were more birds diving so we cruised out and caught up with more dolphins on the drop-off.
We enjoyed the fun waves and the sunshine!
We hope you’ll join us for a trip soon!

Vanessa
