We came across a couple of lively pods — about 250 dolphins total — and they were feasting on tiny squid! These little guys were only about an inch long, likely market squid. We couldn’t see them in the water, but every time the terns plunged down, they popped back up with mini squid dangling from their beaks.
We pushed out into deeper water, around 3,000 feet, and our bottom finder lit up with thick layers of small bait — squid, krill or zooplankton — stacked nearly 200 feet deep. That’s something we haven’t seen in a few days, so we’re feeling hopeful the whales will lock onto it tomorrow.

See ya out there soon!
