Long‑beaked common dolphins were out on patrol along the drop‑off this afternoon!
We connected with two different pods — one cruising north, one off Point Loma — both locked into hunting mode. They’d dive together, vanish into the blue, then burst back up in perfect sync.

These pods are always shifting — mixing, splitting, reforming — a true fission‑fusion society where the only long-term bond is between a mother and her calf for about a year to a year and a half.

Just when we think we’ve seen every trick out here, they flip the script and surprise us all over again.

Alison
