Dolphin Day here in San Diego!

Squid eaters for breakfast again! Two different species! We encountered a pod of Risso’s dolphins intermingling with bottlenose! Risso’s tend to be more of a shy species, but bottlnose, more curious and playful. When you get the two together, they all perk up! We saw breaching, tail slapping, and even a Risso’s playing with a strand of kelp! The conditions were stunning! You could see so clearly through the water, that you could make out the dolphins staring right back at you.

Encountered four different species of Dolphin on our Sunset trip! Started the trip with a few very shy Coastal Bottlenose on our way out of the Jetty. Shortly after we encountered a very large and playful pod of about 400 Long-beaked Common Dolphin that put on an awesome show for us. Pushed out into some deeper water and were able to catch up with the same pod of approximately 20 Risso’s that were seen on the morning trip! Lastly on our way back in we spotted some feeding activity with about 50 Short-beaked Common Dolphin! There were more Dolphin spotted in the distance on our way in.

All-in-all it was an amazing day on the water. We hope you can join us for a trip soon!
