There was the good news – then, there was the bad news. Feeling like early Fall out here. We are starting to see our fall visitors! We had thousands of dolphins and a HUMPBACK WHALE! This afternoon was a bit breezy so the boat got WET but it’s still nice and warm in the mid 70s so everyone was all giggles. Once we found a pod of over 1000 shorties, the fun really started. These dolphins were on a mission out there just at the drop off. There’s nothing like racing along with a huge pod of curious and playful dolphins.
Our sunset adventure very quickly found a humpback whale traveling south super slowly, we realized pretty quickly that it was entangled in some sort of fishing gear, likely a lobster trap, as we could see the floats lingering just sub surface at the whale swam slowly though the ocean. We quickly dialed up Sea World Rescue in hopes to get a disentanglement team on the whale. We gave them the whales heading, speed and last known coordinates, hopefully this whale has a happy ending in its future! After a fair amount of time hanging with the whale, we cruised out to find another HUGE aggregation of dolphins. This, was a feeding frenzy of hundreds of shorties and shearwaters, a promising sign of more whales to come!
