It’s January already? WHEN did that happen? Happy New Year!

A BIG storm rolled through over night and left the ocean looking very dramatic. We set out looking for life on glassy seas with gorgeous clouds filtering a soft glowing orange light. We got north just a few miles off the point of La Jolla and sighted a minke whale! The little whale was hard to find but it stayed near our boat – circling but giving us a wide breadth. We saw the minke surface with its nose pointed skyward, water rippling over as the rest of the whale broke the surface. After hanging with this minke for 40 mins or so, we aimed back for shore. The swell was rollin but the wind was low so the rolling swells looked like Liquid Metal, reflecting hues of silver and gold.
