We had a FIN-tastic morning on the Inspiration!! We cruised out of the Mission Bay jetties and were so amazed to see such beautiful calm seas conditions and awesome visibility! We could see for miles up to San Mateo Point and down to the Los Coronados Islands! We pushed out west, got to the drop-off and began to turn to the north when a eagle-eyed passenger spotted a whale out in the distance! We thought it may have been a Minke whale because of the dark back and lack of spout! But after getting better looks, we could tell is was pretty large for a Minke but still small for a Fin whale! We noticed it’s distinct dorsal fin and interesting cookie-cutter shark bite scars! It came up for a 3-4 breaths and went down for 6-min dives. It was mostly trending south but on our last views of it, it turned to the east. We waved goodbye and enjoyed the cruise home!
We have two more trips to go…stay tuned for updates!
