It was a cold and wet morning in Mission Bay.
The rain subsided by the time we left the dock but it was gloomy and grey until we got in line with the point of La Jolla when the sun decided to come out and so did the dolphins!
An unexpected but welcomed pod of ~30 rissos dolphins came to check out the Privateer! The bright sun emphasized their iridescent blue “whale glow” and unique markings.
While the rissos were on a dive, a similar amount of ~30 bottlenose dolphins showed up following the rissos.
The bottlenose were porpoising and bow riding and just showing off in general.
No bigger baleen whales today, but maybe tomorrow, there’s still plenty of food in the water.
