Eager to get back out to see all the humpbacks from earlier in the day, our sunset trip braved the wet, splashy rolling Pacific, and they were such troopers!
It paid off with us sighting some massive splashes from a humpback tail throwing in the distance! Even from afar we could see that huge peduncle being thrown in all directions!
Of course, like when you get caught singing in your car, the humpback got shy and stopped as soon as we got close by, but we enjoyed observing its breath cycles. In the distance a second humpback showed up making for a double-humpback adventure.
A pod of ~100 long beaked common dolphins rushed through checking us out along the way. We hung out with them as much as we could while keeping up with the whales but they seemed to be late to some where and kept on trucking.
Out of nowhere the humpback we’d been giving the most attention to breached unexpectedly! It was spectacular and really was the highlight of the trip.
We also got to see 2 mola molas (ocean sunfish) AND a large shark jumping on our return to Mission Bay.
Summer is great to see such a huge variety of wildlife, we’d love to have you on a tour asap!
