We headed out on the afternoon trip today into some beautifully calm water. Usually the afternoon breeze picks up and makes the water a little choppy and creates small waves called white caps. Not today! The smooth water surface made it easy to find huge pods of short beaked and long beaked common dolphins! We had several hundred of both ecotypes, both displaying their respective behaviors. The shorties were full body breaching and slowly swimming along socializing. The long beaks came in HOT with a big stampede and immediately started surfing the wake of the Privateer.

Dolphins will always elicit gasps and cheers from the crowd and today was no different!
