Nothing screams independence like whales cruising the Pacific in a world of their own. This 4th of July morning, we headed out to see what that freedom really looks like.
We started with a nursery pod of bottlenose dolphins taking their time at the surface, diving when they felt like it, and surfing the swells as only dolphins can. A perfect start for our AM passengers.
Farther west, we met the second‑largest animal on Earth—the fin whale. Short dive times of about 6–8 minutes and nearly equal surface time gave everyone a long look at its 80‑plus‑foot length. Each exhale thundered across the water, shaking the air around us and reminding us what the power of the ocean feels like.
Happy 4th of July from the Pacific!
