La Jolla Canyon has been the hotspot for incredible wildlife lately! We’ve had a fin whale or two hanging around for the past few days, and we were lucky enough to find one on both of our afternoon trips today.

We shot up north and first came across some voracious pods of dolphins chasing active fish. They were taking long dives and then rocketing back to the surface with so much energy. Babies were everywhere—launching out of the water and making everyone on board squeal with joy.

And the fin whale… absolutely MASSIVE. It cruised close a few times, and it definitely looked longer than our 87‑ft vessel. Fin whales have that distinct lower right jaw that glows a vibrant turquoise when the sun hits it, and today we got some stellar looks—its bright white jaw shining like a beacon beneath the swells.

What a day up in the canyon!
