How about a pod of Risso’s dolphins?

The sunset trip this evening had UNBELIEVABLE conditions, flat seas and partly cloudy skies complete with a water color backdrop every direction you looked. We found a curious minke whale who scooted along possibly feeding in the waters off La Jolla. We also had a huge ocean sunfish (Mola mola) glide down the starboard side. The water was so clear, we looked him right in the googly eye!

Before too long, a small pod of Risso’s dolphins appeared! We got to see the lavender light play off the water and their speckled bodies, scarred from their battles with their main prey: squid.

This weather pattern won’t last long, so some join us for more epic conditions!
