We were happy to get off the dock and into some cool sea breezes and out of the stifling heatwave currently visiting San Diego on our Tuesday morning trip.
The seas are stilling been so accommodating with minimal swell as we made our way to the southwest towards the nine-mile bank.
Out there we saw so many consistent white caps, we thought it was surely just swell. But no, there were short-beaked common dolphins as far as the eye could see!
It was a megapod of short-beaked common dolphins!
They were launching and leaping with lots of porpoising to come race to the bow of the Privateer.
A section of the megapod took off and started to stampede, which looked so impressively powerful with hundreds of dolphins participating.
We also had a rare bird alert with a cocos booby! Which circled the boat a couple times.
Seeing over 1000 dolphins at one time is such a rare treat to witness.
Today is a good day to be on the water, and we have space on the sunset trip if you want to come try your megapod luck too in mega calm seas.
