A gathering of giants (multiple species!) took us FAAAR offshore today, all the way to the outer edge of the 9‑mile bank. During our afternoon trip, a mother and calf fin whale lingered at the surface. Mama twirled on her side while baby rolled around — their gleaming white bellies aimed up at the sky. We could see their whole dance from above the water… absolutely precious.
We charged back out as fast as we could for sunset, hoping for more of the same. Instead, we got a DIFFERENT kind of lucky — an INCOMPREHENSIBLY large BLUE whale surfaced right beside us. This whale was every bit of 90 ft, its body marked by a long life at sea: scars, cookie‑cutter shark bites, and a whole crew of hitchhiking remoras riding along its back.
