The Privateer rounded out a scorcher of a weekend with a hot streak of finding multiple large baleen whales off our San Diego coastline!
We made the executive decision to cover different water that had been explored today and had a huge payout in the form of 3 absolutely massive and healthy fin whales.
They exhibited huge spouts that were easily mistaken for a sailboat from a distance in the haze, but we got some close up great looks at these gentle giants. The fins synced up their breath cycles circling around the area making beautiful grey silhouettes against the rays of light from the setting sun.
Just inside the drop-off we got to hangout with a very relaxed pod of ~30 bottlenose dolphins, crossing toothed whales off our bingo card for the trip too. They had a newborn baby dolphin in tow fresh with fetal-folds, it was adorable. Among the pod was a dolphin missing a dorsal fin, but it didn’t seem to slow down any.
We aren’t slowing down with trips this week either, so there are plenty of chances to join us and catch some of the bigger baleen whales out on the Pacific.
