We had a beautiful afternoon trip filled with hundreds of Common dolphins! We raced out to the SW and were almost to the 9-mile bank when we started to see an uptick in bird and splash activity! We surveyed the super calm seas in search for our 3 S’s: spouts, splashes and seabirds! We sighted a small pod of Common dolphins but then spotted a larger pod out in the distance to the south! We made a good choice as that pod was massive! There was around ~700 Long-beaked Common dolphins! They were coming from the south going to the NW. We came across a dense aggregation of a couple hundred that swarmed our boat! Many surfed our wake and jumped in and out of the water all around us! We got great looks at small calves that cruised close to mom. As the dolphins rushed the area, we also got fun looks at 3 flying fish that got spooked and glided away! It was a beautiful day on the water, we are excited to get out there again and see what we find on the sunset trip!
