We’re talking 35+ BREACHES — all on camera — each one costing this whale about 44,000 calories. Full body launches, twirling pirouettes, chin slaps, giant pec‑wave hellos… it was like watching an 80,000‑lb ballerina wake up and choose chaos.
Our morning trip was suspiciously quiet. Eerily quiet. The kind of quiet that makes you think the ocean is planning something.
And ohhhhhh it was.
Just 3 miles off the coastline, Captain Brian spotted a spout — and then the whale EXPLODED out of the water. And then again. And again. And again. It never stopped. Every time we thought “okay, that must be the finale,” this humpback said NOPE and launched itself skyward – trying to touch the sun.
Passengers were screaming. Cameras were overheating. My naturalist brain was short‑circuiting.
