We searched the ocean today and while we weren’t seeing many mammals at first, we were very entertained by the water-breathing animals that frequent San Diego’s shoreline. Jumping rays, flying fish and even a huge marlin were on the list for surface fish today! As we turned back toward home, BOOM. 1000 common dolphins in a megapod! So many wake riders and baby dolphins. The excited squeals from our passengers obviously made the dolphins very excited as well.
Just when we were getting back to the jetties: BOOM! A singular inshore bottlenose dolphin whacked a fish out of the water! We watched it for a moment admiring its beauty before getting to the dock.
I love dolphins by the dozen or even by themselves. They never cease to entertain and inspire.
