Today the Privateer had an unforgettable trip with a juvenile humpback MUGGING the boat! Unfortunately, this whale was heavily injured probably from a vessel strike. Despite his apparent injuries, he was friendly enough and swimming normally. Humpbacks are sadly prone to vessel strikes and entanglement as they do not have echolocation like their toothed whale counterparts. We talked to the passengers about responsible boating and left the young whale wishing him fair winds and following seas.

The ocean wasn’t done with us as we saw a nice pod of about 200 common dolphins! In true fashion, they integrated us right into their group and swam in our wake for a good while!

Happy to have humpbacks back in town as their migration to Mexico is kicking off!
