We set out of Mission bay and cruised to the NW and had pretty quiet ride. We sighted shearwaters, phalaropes, and other birds along with flying fish! We turned in toward La Jolla and encountered the sweetest most energetic Humpback cruising south in about 140-ft of water! At first it was pretty mellow coming up for one breath and then diving. To our surprise, it threw its tail sky high and with amazing power back into the water! We watched it tail-lob over and over! We even saw it do a little spy hop, sticking its snout out of the water, ever so slowly! It did it again but this time came up in a big kelp and seagrass patty! Spa day! We waved goodbye to our new friend and was on track to head home when another smaller juvenile humpback surfaced right beside us! This one had a speckled tail!

We are stoked to see more and more humpbacks making their way down to south!
