Triple Species Tuesday is upon us! We had a wonderful morning trip with sightings of Long-beaked Common dolphins, Pacific white-sided dolphins, and a Fin whale!
We cruised out on the smooth seas and hooked a hard right out of the gate! We sighted a small pod of ~15 Pacific white-sided dolphins! They were circling the area likely feeding! They formed some pretty cool echelon formations and made quick movements at the surface! They were pretty active and anytime we picked up the pace some would race toward our boat to bow-ride! We left them behind and began our journey out west and sighted more splashes in front of us! We encountered a huge spread-out group of ~400 Long-beaked Common dolphins! They were playful and loved to race up to us! Everyone cheered with excitement as they showed off their speed! We cruised out to the west and once we got to the drop-off we spotted a Fin whale! It was circling the area feeding down below in about ~800 feet of water! We got great looks as it came up for multiple breaths, and down for short dives! We noticed it had a bunch of cookie-cutter shark bite scars on the sides of its body!
We have two more trips to go so we will keep you posted!
