Spring has sprung—and the dolphins are back! 🐬It’s been so good to see them move in again. (Video of the good stuff in the comments!)
The West Coast of the U.S. has one of the highest population densities of dolphins anywhere on Earth, and for a while we were really starting to wonder where they all went. Lately, we’ve been sighting dolphins nearly every day—but today was something truly special.
We witnessed a stampede—when an entire pod of dolphins decides to take off together! There’s less resistance moving through air than through water, so when they pick up speed, they leap fully out of the water. This incredible behavior is called porpoising.
These are wild animals, and I can’t think of another place on Earth where the wild welcomes you to jump in and share the fun like this. Come experience it with us out on the water!

Despite starting the 10:30 AM with socked in fog, we had an amazing trip! As soon as we broke through a bit of the fog we were welcomed by a very active pod of 50 Long Beaked Common Dolphin… Then we pushed farther out to discover an even larger pod of around 150 individuals! Then we ended our long run out West with a fairly decent look at an adult Fin Whale.
