When the ocean is flat calm and the depth sounder is showing a TON of food, the only way to go is west! We headed out from Mission Bay and found a friendly pod of about 50 offshore bottlenose dolphins. Their rakes and jagged dorsal fins tell us they’ve weathered their share of storms and battles but the star of this pod was a very cute baby dolphin! We kept up the western direction and finally found not one, not two but THREE fin whales! Their dorsal fins are only 6 inches taller than bottlenose dolphins’ but they are up to 90 feet long and 70-80 TONS in weight making them the second largest animal on our planet! Quite the size difference in our cetaceans today.
I’m excited for the bait to keep the buffet open for our ocean friends!
