Out on the glassy pacific we headed on our Sunday early excursion where we had flying fish galore, we tallied 23 flying fish to start the day and continuing breaching rays on the horizon.
We jetted out to the 9 mile back where a vast mega-pod of long-beaked common dolphins were porpoising as far as the eye could see! It felt so good to be surrounded by dolphins after a light dolphin week.
A mega-pod wasn’t our only rare sight; a guadalupe fur seal was following the dolphin pod somehow looking both shy and embarrassed all at once. They are the cutest. We ended the trip with a brief look at a mako shark, which has been on brand for our trips recently.
On our afternoon trip we were keeping score of flying fish yet again, with 21 fish skimping the surface around the Privateer and short beaked common dolphins in the mix. A much smaller pod than the morning but always a welcome sight to see both kinds of common dolphins in a single day.
We’re back out for the sunset, will we see more flying fish than the morning?
