This Autumn has kept us guessing between the insanely hot land (100f in San Diego??) and water temperatures (75f off shore today), and the roulette of what are we seeing on the water on any given trip.
Today was no exception and definitely a memorable for crew and passengers alike.

Although we saw them on Friday, we were beyond excited to have an encore of the short finned pilot whales! We had 75+ beautiful individuals in the pod who were very curious of the boat bow riding, turning on their sides to check us out, it was incredible! There was a sweet little baby nursing on its mom and riding on her back. The visibility and conditions were perfect today on the extremely rare wildlife.
We got so lucky with spy-hops, rain-blows and them making formations and echolocating.

This week has been the first time we’ve seen short finned pilot whales since 2017! Many of our crew members had never pilot whales before. A true bucket list animal for many of us.

We have an afternoon trip tomorrow and we certainly will be looking for Pilot whales among all the other unusual wildlife out on the pacific.
