We had two amazing trips with hundreds of Common dolphins sighted on both trips! We also got lucky and spotted a Minke and a Humpback whale on the sunset trip!
To start our day, we cruised out to the drop-off and continued north. We took in the beautiful sights of the La Jolla coastline! We were scanning all around in search for wildlife and was pretty quiet to start. But then we spotted a huge feeding frenzy up in front of us about 4-miles away! There were hundreds of birds diving and feeding alongside a huge pod of ~500 Long-beaked Common dolphins! They zoomed around and took time come hang out with us! We had the best time enjoying their explosive energy! They were breaching and porpoising all around the boat! We enjoyed the smooth ride home!
On our sunset trip, we cruised out and noticed a very dense and dark fog bank giving spooky vibes! It was coming from the south so we cruised north! We sighted a big bird pile up the coast and once we got there we sighted so many dolphins all around! We were racing against the fog and stayed with them as long as we could before the fog began to engulf our boat! We cruised out toward the west and a Minke whale was spotted just north of the birds. We waited a little longer and then a humpback was sighted by Captain Michael! We enjoyed amazing looks as it was down for about 3-5 minutes with 4 breaths. We loved to see its big puffy spout in the sunlight! Passengers lit up and screamed with excitement when we got to see its tail! We got lucky that the fog moved on and we had a nice opening and could enjoy the sunset!
We are still seeing Humpback whales coming through, so come on out soon!
