One afternoon trip is all for us today! Hundreds of long and short beaked common dolphins were hanging out off the drop off today. They were spread out over miles of ocean, the long-beaks just off mission bay and the shorties stretching up into La Jolla canyon. These are huge areas of nutrient upwelling, and it was obvious that the water was stuffed with bait fish, there were so many birds hovering above the dolphins that they almost looked like a wave in the sky above the water. We’ve had amazing wildlife for weeks and it’s all still coming down the line for fall!
