Gray Whale Alert! Gray Whale Alert!
The San Diego portion of the gray whale migration has began!
On a stunning Sunday on the Pacific, the PM passengers onboard the Privateer got a real treat of our very first gray whales of the southbound migration to the lagoons of Baja. Seas were incredibly calm and glassy as we made our way towards Point Loma where a pair of adult gray whales were sighted! We hung out with them for several breath cycles as they exhibited travel mode behaviour. The pair were taking turns showing their flukes when diving on deeper sounding dives which they alternated with shallower split dives. It kept us on our toes guessing when they’d pop up at the surface again!
This summer several gray whales were sighted, which was highly unusual, so the crew has been extremely curious what the gray whale migration would look like this year, that being said, this is a great start to the season and right on cue being the last day of November.
While the seas are so glassy calm and we are seeing humpbacks and dolphins AND gray whales, it’s a great time to be out on the water, so come join us.
