We HIT the whale and dolphin JACKPOT on today’s afternoon trip!! Passengers were treated to an incredible encounter with at least EIGHT Humpback whales and ~400 Long-Beaked Common dolphins!! You could say it was like whale and dolphin soup! We got out past the drop-off and observed multiple spouts from a distance! On approach some of us witnessed a Humpback that breached out of the water! We got to the scene and sighted hundreds of birds of many different species, California sea lions, Common dolphins, and multiple Humpbacks all traveling south! The dolphins seemed to be leading the charge while some Humpbacks followed and others swam with them in the huge dense pod! We even got lucky to see a Humpback rolling around in some kelp getting a nice seaweed massage! It draped the kelp on its tail, back and pectoral flippers. We watched as it laid on its back, belly up and pec-slapped back and forth! It did a half spy-hop by lifting its snout out if the water as it rolled in the kelp! The Commons were just as playful with big leaps and breaches! Many surfed beside us and all around us! A few cow/calf pairs swam beside the boat! The ocean was so calm and glassy allowing us to see the dolphins swim 10-ft below us!! It was definitely a trip to remember!!
