Long trips are always better with company.

The gray whales definitely got that memo today.

The whale watching started early in the sunset trip with a spout sighted before we had barely cleared the jetties.

This solo southbound gray whale was sneaky, elusive, and pretty long winded with 15 minute breath cycles, so we didn’t spend much time with this one and headed north west towards the 3 mile line where a pair of gray whales had been sighted. Before we could catch up with them, spout after spout after spout shot up with a close knit quad of gray whales popped up!

Only going in the depths for 3-5 minutes at a time and some rolling around at the surface made for a much more exciting time on the water.

This quad lifted their tail flukes almost every dive.

We rounded out the trip with a beautiful golden orange sunset and the odd inshore bottlenose dolphins following us to the Mission Bay jetties.

Calm conditions continue into the week so it’s a “gray-t” time to be on the water with us!
