5 whales? NO!
10 whales? NOPE!
20 WHALES TODAY? YEP, YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT!
We had a total of twenty whales on our three trips today (21 if you count the whale‑shaped cloud). Our afternoon trip was INSANE — 10 whales on a single 2.5‑hour trip!
We spotted two spouts off in the distance — gray whales — and before we could even get to them, another crossed our path! We got great looks at the first whale, then the next two, but with an insatiable appetite for adventure, we headed farther west and found a VERY flirtatious pod of five gray whales determined to make their way to Mexico. They were cruising south at high speed, but not so fast that they couldn’t show off some spunky surface behaviors.
We watched them rolling around, cuddling on the surface, tossing out enthusiastic tail flicks, and flashing plenty of gorgeous flukes. Right before we got back to shore we had the COOLEST pod of pacific white sided dolphins! They swam with vigor and wanted nothing more than to surf in our wake just INCHES from the boat. Sunset kept the momentum going. Within 30 minutes we were hanging out with three more gray whales that ALSO seemed to be displaying courtship behavior. There MUST be something in the water!
When our time started running low, we pointed home — and got TWO MORE bonus whales on the way in.
Including the morning trip, that brings today’s total to TWENTY!
You still wondering if it’s a good time to get out here?
Re- read that and book your trip ASAP!
