Mini Breacher and BABY Gray whale! Boy! We had an action-packed afternoon trip! We sighted a single southbound gray right out of the gate! Within a mile from sunset Cliffs, the gray whale rolled around at the surface as well as did a mini breach even trying to spin in the air! We got to see it land on its back with its eye, and mouth line visible! It traveled pretty slowly to the south and never lifted its flukes! We waved goodbye and ventured up the coast. Not too far behind the first whale was a cow/calf pair of southbound gray whales! The calf was very new to the world and likely days old! It kept up with mom, swimming in her slip stream! We got great looks as the calf came up to breathe 3 times more than mom! The calf was squeaky clean and oh so wrinkly! Lol! We watched them carry-on down south and headed to the NW once again. Our final sighting was a small pod of ~3-5 Pacific white-sided dolphins! They zoomed all around the boat including the bow! There was also an imposter that hung out with them! A little California sea lion leaped out of the water several times, as well as surfed in our wake!
We are so excited to share that was our fourth cow/calf pair sighted this season! We did not see any last year, so we are stoked!
