We were smooth sailing out on the Privateer today! We set out of the Mission bay jetties and spotted a small handful of Pacific white-sided dolphins! They raced around, likely chasing bait! We noticed a handful of gulls diving and watching them in hopes of also getting some prey! We ventured out to the west and once we got to the drop-off we hooked out to the SW toward the 9-mile bank. Then we turned in toward the coast line and took the spectacular views of south San Diego and Mexico! We hugged the coast back up toward Mission bay! We got super lucky as we got a call from our friends letting us know about a southbound Gray whale! We watched it surface for 3-4 breaths with 6-min dives. We had great looks as it surfaced for strong arching dives with Ocean Beach in the background! We wished it well as it continued down toward the lagoons!
Come out soon to catch up with the Gray whales before they all head back up north to AK!

Vanessa
