Happy Friday everyone! We had another amazing day spent with our brilliant blue whales and various species of dolphins! We saw about ~225 common dolphins throughout our morning and afternoon trips! We also saw 50 offshore bottlenose dolphins during our afternoon trip. We hung out with 8 blue whales during both of our trips, therefore a total of 16 blue whales were sighted off our San Diego coast! One of the blue whales even went under our boat.
Our Sunset trip was just brilliant! We headed out to where the whales have been hanging out but before we got there- we found so many whales closer to shore! The closer the whales are, the longer we get to hang out with our favorite friendly giants! We hung out with the first blue whale we saw for two breath cycles and it fluked both times! A unique upturned tail fluke on both sides! We then went to go hang out with ~400 long beaked common dolphins who enjoyed bow riding just abut as much as we enjoyed watching them! Before returning home, we decided to take a look at one more blue whale, and the dolphins must’ve thought it was a good idea as well because they followed us until we had to turn in for the night!.
